Direct messaging is secure email for health information--a simple, cost-effective mechanism to transport patients' protected health information (PHI) to known, trusted recipients over the Internet. It is the data transport mechanism used to send CurrentCare Hospital Alerts from CurrentCare to providers, and is also required for practices to send patients’ EHR data into CurrentCare. Direct messaging is also a means to meet the Meaningful Use transitions of care objective.
